IFG Capital Limited ("IFG") provides strategic support for the development and growth of privately-owned companies, especially small and medium-sized owner-managed businesses.

IFG focuses on bringing strategy advice, funding and people resources to owners and senior management, to assist them in crossing growth thresholds and increasing value. It works with them to develop and implement strategies of growth both organic and by acquisition. It focuses particularly on preparation for, structuring and introduction to appropriate capital funding. It provides both transactional and ongoing support.

IFG is particularly interested in situations and sectors that have an international dimension and offer "21st Century" opportunities. Sectors include advanced flexible materials, IT and telecoms software, media and financial services (including private equity fund managers).

IFG's Directors and Associates have worldwide commercial, institutional and private networks to access sector-specific expertise, funding and other resources.

International - Emerging Markets

IFG operates internationally partly in cooperation with its associate IFG Development Initiatives Limited, which is an economic development consulting company serving governments, multilateral agencies, and the financial and corporate sectors in emerging markets. It has a wide network of contacts with funding sources, corporate finance companies and consultants in emerging countries. Its capabilities include:

  • assisting UK SMEs to do business in emerging markets, whether in seeking trading partners, making acquisitions or raising funding;
  • assisting non-UK companies to do business in the UK;
  • assisting fund managers in emerging markets with raising international funding.

Examples of projects in recent years include:

  • structuring, raising and managing a mezzanine finance fund in the UK, with UK and European investors and lenders, specializing in supporting the growth of SMEs;
  • providing acquisition capital for a leading international UK-based manufacturer of speciality credit cards and SIM cards and adviser on loyalty card programmes, followed by introduction to a leading broker and successful flotation on the London Stock Exchange;
  • providing capital for expansion and product development for a leading UK and US-based international manufacturer of electronic cash counting machines;
  • providing capital for the acquisition by one of the UK's leading speciality transport companies of its principal European competitor;
  • structuring, preparation for and raising early stage capital for a company that has developed a new fabric technology.

Lord Taverne (non-executive Chairman)
Former MP and government minister as Financial Secretary to the UK Treasury. Former Chairman of OLIM Convertible Trust, Deputy Chairman of the Central European Growth Fund, Director of BOC Group plc and of Axa Equity & Law Life Assurance Society (currently Chairman of the Monitoring Board of Axa Sun Life). Former Director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies. Founder Director of PRIMA Europe Limited, a public policy consulting company. Chairman of IFG Development Initiatives Limited.

Andrew Hunt (Managing Director)
Formerly with Bankers Trust Company of New York - head of several banking divisions and General Manager of the London Branch - wide experience of international banking with government, financial services, corporate and project sectors in developed and emerging markets. Founder and Managing Director of IFG.

Stuart Webster (non-executive Director)
Formerly with Chase Manhattan Bank - General Manager for UK and Northern Europe and head of Treasury for Europe. Later Chief Executive of Gulf Bank in Kuwait. Consultant on treasury and banking issues to major governments and institutions in the Middle East. Recently a private investor, and NED of financial service and commercial companies.

Stephen Blank
Formerly partner in Binder Hamlyn, in charge of Corporate Finance at their Manchester office. Extensive industrial experience including Group FD of Swinton Insurance, acquired by Royal Sun Alliance. Very extensive recent experience in financial due diligence for funding institutions, fund raising for SME's (debt and equity) as well as acquisition and sale advisory work. Former Chairman, Institute for Fiscal Studies North West branch. Presently part time Finance Director to several growing SME's ranging from start up to well established. Also non executive chairman and NED representing local North West England venture funds.

Jonathan Cohen
Formerly with Warburgs, then head of corporate finance and Chief Executive at County NatWest and Vice Chairman of Charterhouse Bank - wide experience of corporate finance including raising finance in public and private markets and mergers and acquisitions. Recently, a non-executive director of, and a consultant to, a number of listed and unlisted companies. Founder Director of IDDAS, a company that provides mentoring services to senior executives from a range of leading companies and firms. Consultant on effective board strategies. An active private investor.

Gerbrand Hop
Formerly senior executive with JP Morgan and Chairman of NatWest Investment Bank - wide experience of commercial and investment banking in all continents including Asia. Later Chief Executive of the European Investment Fund, an institution of the EU responsible for supporting the development of small and medium sized companies via banking and venture capital finance. Recently advising entities in Western and Central Europe, the Middle East and Asia on finance raising.

Dr. Cyril Lin
Founder and Managing Director of IFG Development Initiatives Limited, an economic development consulting company focusing on emerging economies, including corporate governance issues. Formerly Chairman of Lin and Company; Fellow of St. Antony's College, Lecturer in Economics and Director of the Centre for Modern Chinese Studies, Oxford University; CEO of Oxford China Economics (specialising in economic modelling and policy analyses of China); and Chief Economist and Senior Board Member for Asia-Pacific, Oxford Analytica Daily Brief. Clients have included the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the EBRD, governments in Asia and major corporations.
